Intercon F ConCom Reminder

This is a reminder that there will be an Intercon F ConCom meeting, this Sunday, December 4th, from 2-5 in Waltham, MA on the Brandeis University campus.

These are open meetings, and all are invited to attend. If you would like to participate, e-mail me for directions, or to arrange transportation.

Please also e-mail me with any and all items to be discussed by the committee. This will be one of the largest Intercons in recent history, and it happens because of volunteers like you.

-Chad

Intercon F is brought to you by New England Interactive Literature, and the hard work of the many volunteers. Thanks also to LARPA and our other sister organizations.

Pinochle anyone?

Today I wrote up and posted online, the Rules to Pinochle, including a Strategy page, and a Glossary. Anyone looking to take on the challenge of learning a fairly unique game should take a look at it. And for those of you who already know how to play, check it out and let me know what I missed. I already know that at some point I should put up some diagrams on meld layouts (ways to easily indicate arounds, trump, etc.)

This is the Double Deck variation played by my family for many years now. I decided to post this up partly as a way to encourage new players, and also to say thanks to anyone who has taught me a new game over the years. Thanks!

Anyone interested in playing a game, or learning by doing, let me know.

It’s a boy!

Yesterday we went out to the MetroWest Humane Society and ended up going home with this guy:

He hasn’t told us his name yet, but he’s got the largest paws I’ve seen in a very long time. He’s also friendly, calm, and playful. He spent most of the past 24 hours hiding in different parts of the house (including having to be pulled out from inside the couch), but doesn’t mind sitting with us (or on us) and came out and curled up on the bed for a little while during the night. We’ll let you know his name. In the meantime, he does well with people; interested parties should contact us to find out when visiting hours are.

Edit: For those interested, MetroWest currently has about 100 cats and kittens (too cute!), and are effectively out of room. They are in the middle of a much needed expansion project, and can use donations of money, food, or willing homes for needy animals. We say several wonderful animals there, including a 6 year old girl who was remarkeably mild and started purring almost as soon as she was picked up. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a cat, or jsut looking to do some Good Works check them out.
