The waiters never are rude…

Wow. Take a look at this and then go dig out those old fourtunes lying around…. (thanks kyrelle for the link)

This past weekend I went down to CT. It was a good trip. Taught my family to play Diamant on Saturday before getting together with a couple of friends from high school that I haven’t seen in years (seven to ten), and to hang out with friends of theirs as well. Had a good time with zombie movies and general chatting and catching up. I realized that it’s been a long time since I’ve made time just to hang out with people, and I should look at changing that. It’s going to have to wait until after the Florida trip though. Sunday I helped my dad load up a pile of lumber to build a deck with and haul it out to the campsite. Spent almost an hour there trying to get the waste line hooked up to the camper they have, because the hookup at the site was poorly laid out (at the front of the site, instead of the back, where all campers have their drain). Once we managed to stretch the hose the 20+ feet required we quickly unloaded the lumber and headed back. I then replaced the missing side view mirror on my car that has been gone for a little over a year, and put on 4 new hubcaps because one went missing and the others were pretty beat up. Unlike typical hubcaps, these are just clip in covers, so I’m not surprised one got lost; I probably hit a pothole too fast. I also took the opportunity of being home to pull out my parents entertainment center and rewire everything so that it all goes through the amp properly, and they can use the Tivo effectively. Previously they would have to change the television to two or three different channels depending on what they were trying to watch. And then we played a little pinochle.

In the days since, I’ve been trying to get some of the mundane things done around my place, and have started putting together items for the Florida trip – 9 days and counting.

Tonight is NotA rehearsal. Remember, concert on the 4th of June! E-mail me or comment here for more information or to reserve tickets!

Trying to keep up.

Ok, ok. I was taken to task recently for not updating, and I don’t really have time to update now, but I’m going to anyway – and I’m looking at making a hole in my schedule for 1/2 hour each week just to update.

So what do people want to see in these updates? I’ve already got one request just to keep people a little more updated on what I’ve been up to, so I’ll try some of that. I’ve also been asked for a little more insight, so I’ll try to post a few items about the week that I’ve found interesting, useful, amusing, etc. Let’s go.

What I’ve been up to since mid-April, when I nominally last updated (although not with anything useful):

  • Greenwood Isle Picnic
  • Bit of asdr83’s bio conference
  • natb’sBirthday BBQ
  • Low Company meeting
  • gaming at Danger Planet
  • saw HHGTTG
  • graduation party
  • Cinco de Mayo party (early)
  • May Day event
  • Taellose and A’s wedding (fantastic!)

That’s most of the major things. There was the regular stuff in there too. If anyone wants a bigger report on any of those, leave a comment, and I’ll go out of my way to make a whole post about it. Importantly, here’s what is coming up in the next few weeks, so you can all be aware:

  • This coming weekend I’ll be down in CT visiting my folks, and hopefully a few friends from High School. And Mother’s Day.
  • Did I mention these weren’t necessarily in order? Tomorrow is International No Pants Day! See http://www.nopantsday.com/ for more details.
  • Birthday Party on the 13th
  • Graduation of asdr83 (go congratulate her!) and celebration thereof next Saturday
  • Concom meeting for Intercon F on Sunday. (Ah! Need to prepare)
  • May 20-30; Florida vacation (Ah! Need to pack)
  • Jun 4th; NotA‘s big Spring Fever concert! (Ah! Need to practice) You should all go to this. The concert is at 7pm, costs $8 (about a third of which goes to charity), will be a kickass concert, and I really want you there. Yes, that means you too. Please? Thanks.
  • Jun 10-12 – Reunion weekend at ‘deis. Have to see how much of that I actually go to.

That’s about it on the schedule front. Again, if you want more details on something, just ask. Now for the neato thing of the week; I’ve been listening to a variety of podcasts recently, and hqave gotten a little juiced about the ease of making one these days (especially with Audio Hjack Pro) and have recently discovered that WordPress (see the link on the side) as of the recent version, will automagically read any links to audio files in a post, and make enclosure tags out of them for the xml feed. In simple terms, this means it can be used to make podcasts right out of the box, so to speak. So in the future I might play around with doing some sort of weekly podcast thing to see if that gives me a little more posting regularity. I’ll keep you up to date on that.

Grumble….

Today was supposed to be a slow day at work. It is a staff holiday, so most of the full timers are gone, but I got nailed today anyhow for volunteering to take the easy day… why? Operator calls are still being routed to my group despite the determination weeks ago that they shouldn’t be, and that it is supposed to be handled by an automated system. Additionally, all the students need to exchange their IP phones for a newer, niftier model, which is all well and good. They decided not to do this until the very end of the semester. They neglected to tell the students that today was a staff holiday, and because they still have classes, they assume that it is business as normal, so I’ve been having to turn students away in droves today.

On the plus side I did take the time to finally track down and nail the bug in my plugin that has been keeping this blog from syncing over to Live Journal ever since I went with a real hosting solution in early March. So, for those of you that didn’t notice, I’ll give you a quick run down, and you can go to my site through that link below to see the full material.

*edit*: New bug.  Getting unuseable perl errors now.  Time to break out the bigger baseball bat.
