From this article on PhysicsWeb, a new technique has been used to make Alumina based glass. Good dose of science, interesting possibilities.

I know…
I know I don’t post very often. Much of that is because I’m not one for public navel gazing, or self-announcing the play by play of my life. Much of it is because sometimes it’s easier to not post and go do something else with my time. But it occured to me the other day, as I was getting in touch with a high school friend, that it isn’t reasonable to expect people to be able to keep up with my life in other fashions. we’re _all_ busy, and don’t have as much time to visit, to call, or to write, as we’d like. So from now on, I’ll try to post a little more often, so those of you as caught up with other things as I am can take the time now and again to catch up with me. And if you’re a new reader to this little corner of my life, I’m sorry that it doesn’t reflect more of my life.
Silly Cat.
So while moving this past weekend, my parents brought up Molly, the other cat. She is taking medication, and my parents wanted to make sure she got it, and was generally taken care of, so I suggested they bring the cat up for the weekend, which they gladly did. Molly is a tiny cat (and always has been), and is also the sort of cat that you will never see if you are not a member of the household. As a result, the very first things she did was try to find a hiding hole. Behind the couch didn’t work well enough, so she get very creative and found a hole in the corner of the cabinetry toeboards, and was actually able to get in behind the cabinets and the dishwasher, where she spent much of the weekend hiding. We had to take the dishwasher out from its place under the counter and fish her out. We then put her in the larger and easier to get around pantry, along with her food dish and travel box. Silly Cat.
Semi-Officially Moved
As of now, all the hard work of moving has been done. Ok, that’s not entirely true. But all the hard work of getting stuff from one place to another is done. Oh, there’s still some things to go from the old place to the new, but nothing that requires a truck. And there’s still all the work of unpacking and settling in, but I’ve actually got a good head start on that too. I’d like to make special mention of the efforts of Arawen, Natb, and Valadil in coming out and helping me. And a very large nod to my family, who gave two full weekends of truck usage and assistance. And perpetual thanks to Asdr for continued moral support, hefting assistance, and sanity checking.
Look for a forthcoming announcement of a housewarming party, likely in mid to late September.
